Dear Parents, Guardians and Esteemed Community Members,

With great joy and pride, we extend a warm invitation to you and your family to join us for the Unsung Heroes Black History Month Celebration. This event is a heartfelt tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated unwavering dedication, resilience and commitment to our schools and community. Through their actions, they continue to inspire us all, even if their efforts often go unrecognized.

Details of the Celebration:
Location: Dizzy Gillespie Auditorium, DMHS
Date: Thursday, February 20, 2025
Dinner: 5:00 – 6:15 PM
Event Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM

Theme: Highlighting Unsung Heroes – Celebrating individuals who have shown perseverance, resilience and a deep commitment to the Englewood Public Schools District, all while embodying the spirit of community.

We are excited to honor the hard work of individuals who have uplifted our students, supported our staff and helped shape the heart and soul of our community. This celebration will include performances, award presentations, poetry and music, creating a space where we can all come together to reflect on the history and the unsung champions in our midst.

The evening’s program will feature:

  • Opening Performance by the DMHS Drumline

  • Award Presentations celebrating our Unsung Heroes, with students researching and sharing the legacies of historical African American figures connected to the honorees.

  • Cultural Performances from JDMS, Quarles, McCloud School and Grieco School students

  • A Poem Recitation by Ms. Dale Harris

  • The Grand Award presentation to Mr. Thomas "Moose" Monroe whose work embodies the spirit of the event’s theme

  • Final Performance of “Lift Me Up” by Rihanna song by JDMS soloist 

We hope that you will join us for this meaningful evening, as we celebrate the perseverance, strength and achievements of those who work tirelessly to make our schools a place of growth, knowledge and opportunity for every child.
