Dear Englewood Students, Parents, and Staff,
As we prepare to embark on the 2024-2025 school year, I am excited to share some key updates and initiatives that will shape our continued commitment to educational excellence and student success.
I am thrilled to report that our district has seen remarkable progress in student growth across all grade levels. Over the past year, our concerted efforts to enhance academic instruction and support have yielded significant gains in both literacy and math. These improvements are a testament to the hard work of our dedicated educators, the support of our families, and the resilience of our students.
Our primary goal remains to provide a high-quality education that equips every student with the skills necessary for future success. This year, we will continue our strong focus on literacy and math literacy across all grade levels. We recognize that these foundational skills are crucial for academic achievement and lifelong learning. Our dedicated teachers will implement innovative strategies and evidence-based practices to support and challenge every student, ensuring that they not only meet but exceed their academic potential.
We are thrilled to announce that our district will expand its partnership with The Algebra Project over the next two years. This initiative aims to improve algebra instruction and student understanding by integrating real-world applications and problem-solving techniques into the curriculum. By engaging students in meaningful mathematical experiences, we hope to enhance their critical thinking skills and prepare them for advanced coursework and future careers.
Last year, our district was selected to join the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program. This inclusion will provide our students with access to cutting-edge technology and digital resources that will enhance their learning experiences. The integration of these tools will support our efforts to foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. We look forward to leveraging these resources to enrich our students' educational journeys. We will distribute student devices during the Second Annual Back to School Fair on Saturday, September 7th at 10 a.m.
We are pleased to announce our district's participation in the My Brother's Keeper (MBK) mentoring program. This initiative will provide targeted mentoring and support for our students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. By offering guidance and positive role models, MBK aims to help our students achieve their full potential and overcome barriers to success.
We will also continue our involvement in the Stop & Shop school pantry program. This valuable initiative provides essential food resources to our students and families in need, ensuring that they have access to nutritious meals. By supporting the well-being of our students outside the classroom, we aim to create a more equitable and supportive school environment.
To create a more focused and engaging learning environment, we will be implementing a cell phone ban during school hours. This policy is designed to minimize distractions and encourage students to fully participate in their educational activities. We believe that this approach will contribute to a more productive and respectful classroom atmosphere.
We are also excited to introduce several new leaders who will join our district this year:
1. We welcome our new principals, Mr. Jorge Osoria, Dr. Randall Rossilli, and Dr: Laura Mathieu to DMHS, McCloud Elementary, and JDMS. Their experience and passion for education will be instrumental in fostering a positive and productive school environment. Each principal brings a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to student success, and we are confident they will make significant contributions to our schools.
2. We are pleased to announce the appointment of our new Director of Technology, Alex Blinder:
This role will be pivotal as we continue to integrate advanced technology into our classrooms and enhance our digital infrastructure. The Director will work closely with staff and students to ensure that our technology resources are used effectively to support learning and innovation.
3. Our new Supervisor of CTE and Grants, Jamie Chang will oversee and expand our Career and Technical Education programs, ensuring they meet the needs of our students and align with industry standards. This role also includes managing grants, which will support and enhance our educational programs and resources.
4. We are excited to welcome a talented group of new teachers and support staff to our district. Their diverse skills and fresh perspectives will enrich our classrooms and contribute to a vibrant and engaging learning experience for our students.
5. I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to our new Verizon Innovative Learning (VILS) coaches, Ms. Amy Lupardi and Ms. Nickie Colman.
Lastly, as we prepare to begin the 2024-2025 school year, we pause to remember and honor the extraordinary contributions of Dr. Daniela Small Bailey, whose impact on our district and community was profound and lasting.
