Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this letter finds you well as we prepare for the upcoming academic year at Dwight Morrow/Academies @ Englewood. As we continue to strive for excellence in education, I am writing to inform you of an important change that will be implemented on our campus for the 2024-2025 school year. Beginning this academic year, DMAE will be a cell phone-free space during school hours. We are introducing the Yondr Program, The Yondr Program utilizes a simple, secure pouch that stores a phone. Every student will secure their phone in a Yondr pouch when they arrive at school. Students will maintain possession of their phones and will not use them until their pouches are opened at the end of the school day. Pouches will be locked during the day and opened during dismissal time.

Recent surveys conducted by Yondr across their partner schools have shown significant improvements in various aspects of student life:

  • 65% of schools reported an improvement in academic performance.

  • 74% of schools reported an improvement in student behavior.

  • 83% of schools reported an improvement in student engagement in the classroom.

We strongly believe that minimizing distractions, such as cell phones, will allow our students to better connect with their teachers and peers, thereby enhancing their overall learning experience. By adopting the Yondr Program, we aim to create a conducive environment where students can thrive academically and socially.

To provide you with more information about the Yondr Program and its implementation at our school, we will be hosting discussions at our upcoming events:

  • Freshman Orientation: August 22, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

  • Parent Orientation: August 22, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

In conclusion, we are committed to providing the best possible educational environment for your child. We believe that the Yondr Program will contribute significantly to achieving this goal. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in embracing this positive change.

Warm regards,

Jorge Osoria
