FOOD ALLERGY GUIDELINES
Managing food allergies in Pre-School / Kindergarten can be challenging. Parents / Guardians are encouraged to be proactive and to provide the Health Office with information about their child’s allergy by completing and submitting the following forms:
FOOD ALLERGY & ANAPHYLAXIS EMERGENCY CARE PLAN
Documents should be submitted with at least one epinephrine auto-injector and any other prescribed medication to treat his/her reactions. In order to reduce food allergens in the classroom , it is recommended that you speak with your child's teacher about the role of food in the classroom. All parents of students with food allergies are encouraged to send in a supply of safe snacks for their children.
All food served in the school cafeteria is provided by an outside food service vendor and is peanut and tree nut free.
POMPTONIAN FOOD SERVICES ALLERGY OPTION.
Please be sensitive that there may be students with allergies to peanuts, tree nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, etc.) or their oils. Please check products with labels indicating that they were produced in a facility that processes peanuts/tree nuts, on shared equipment and all ingredients on labels before purchasing.
Numerous factors are considered when assessing the safety of food before it enters a classroom and that is the reason for final approval by the School Nurse.
Although foods may be approved by the nurse, please remember that the final decision to serve food to the food allergic student rests with his or her own parent(s) or guardian(s).If you have any questions, please contact your School Nurse.
Students are advised to wash their hands before and after consuming foods.
Students are encouraged to not share or swap food.
For grade-level classroom and school-wide activities, non-food items are strongly encouraged. All food must be in its original container with the nutrition label intact. All food must be brought to the Health office for approval prior to entering the classroom.
Homemade/bakery foods are not permitted since cross-contamination is always a possibility.
